Bartlett Milling Co.’s Statesville, North Carolina, facility was hit by an explosion on April 7, seriously injuring a worker. The explosion occurred while two maintenance workers were in the basement of the building repairing a piece of equipment. (read full story)

Explosion at Flour Mill Repeat Experience for Company
“Repeat” and possibly even “willful” violations potentially are in store for Bartlett Milling Co., following an explosion at its Statesville, N.C. facility. While no one was killed in the explosion, one worker seriously was injured and, unfortunately, the company was cited in the past by OSHA for health and safety violations related to the build up of combustible grain dust. Controlling Dust Explosions in Waste and Recycling
Any industry which handles fine organic dusts is at risk of these materials burning and exploding.
